A North Carolina man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly shot his girlfriend, stole her vehicle and opened fire on two other women during unsuccessful carjacking attempts at separate businesses.
Robert Page, 52, has been charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He also faces one count each of robbery and larceny of a motor vehicle, according to authorities. The allegations have not been proven in court.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said the series of incidents began at approximately 7 a.m. Sunday. Deputies responded to a reported shooting in the 700 block of Messenger Street in Fayetteville, where they discovered a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim, who authorities identified as Page’s girlfriend, was transported to a hospital and listed in stable condition. Investigators allege that Page took her vehicle following the shooting and drove away.
Page then allegedly traveled to a Hardee’s restaurant in the 6300 block of Ramsey Street. Fayetteville police said he attempted to steal another woman’s vehicle before shooting her.
Minutes later, Page allegedly carried out a similar attack in the parking lot of a Food Lion grocery store. Police said he tried unsuccessfully to take a third woman’s vehicle and shot her during the encounter. Both women were transported to local hospitals and reported to be in stable condition.
Officers took Page into custody shortly after the shootings, authorities said.
Leighanna Bullard identified the Food Lion victim as her 24-year-old sister, Izzy Dolin. Speaking with WRAL, Bullard said Dolin had stopped at the grocery store to get a cup of coffee before going to work.
“He said, ‘I need this car,’ and she kind of laughed it off at him at first. He did push her, and then he shot her in the face,” Bullard told the television station.
Derrick Hicks, a bystander who witnessed part of the incident, said he approached Dolin to provide assistance.
“As soon as I got closer, he was checking her pockets. And then right when I got up on her, he got in his car and left,” Hicks recalled.
Hicks remained with Dolin and rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. He later rejected suggestions that his actions made him a hero.
“I don’t feel like a hero, just a normal person trying to help out whatever way I can,” he told the outlet. “One message I do have for her family: She is a strong, young lady. She is strong.”
Page remains in the Cumberland County Jail without bond. He is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Sept. 16.
