It’s good news for Motherwell fans as two familiar faces are sticking around for another season. Callum Slattery and Stephen O’Donnell have both penned one-year contract extensions, keeping them at Fir Park for the 2025/26 campaign, reported Daily Recored.

The 26-year-old midfielder Slattery has been rewarded after making a strong return to action following a long spell on the sidelines with a serious knee injury. The club had the option to extend his contract and didn’t hesitate to activate it, especially after the impact he’s made since his comeback in January—three goals in just eight appearances.

Reflecting on his journey, Slattery admitted he didn’t know the future when he signed his deal last summer. “The club showed faith and trust in me, and my mission has been to get back fully fit so I can thank them for that,” he said. “It’s been so good to be back on the pitch, scoring goals and creating new memories.”

Manager Michael Wimmer is clearly thrilled to have Slattery on board for another year. “Callum has been excellent since I arrived and is a real spark in the team. He suits the style we want to implement here and has shown a great attitude,” he said.

Meanwhile, right-back Stephen O’Donnell is also staying put after triggering an extension clause in his current contract. The 32-year-old has been a consistent presence this season, clocking up 28 appearances, and his experience will be vital going into his sixth season with the Steelmen.

Wimmer had high praise for the veteran defender as well: “Stephen is a great character. He trains excellently and is a role model for younger players. He sets an example by his work ethic.”

For O’Donnell, who’s from the local area, sticking with Motherwell is more than just a job – it’s personal. “I’m proud to be a Motherwell player,” he said. “This is my local area and I’ve always given 100% to the cause. The community feeling is prevalent and it’s an exciting time to be here.”

Both players bring something different to the squad – Slattery with his creative spark and energy in midfield, and O’Donnell with his experience and leadership at the back. With these two locked in for another year, Motherwell fans can look forward to a bit more stability as the team builds towards the future.
