Big news for Bristol Bears fans! The club has locked in two key players, with forward Harry Thacker and scrum-half Kieron Marmion both putting pen to paper on fresh contracts. While the exact length of their deals hasn’t been disclosed, the news is a huge boost for the Premiership side as they continue their push for success.
Thacker, 31, has stood out for Bristol since joining in 2018. With an incredible 60 tries in 127 appearances, he’s now the club’s top-scoring forward – a stat that speaks volumes about his attacking prowess. Director of rugby Pat Lam couldn’t be happier, calling Thacker a “key influence” both on and off the pitch, reported BBC.
“His dynamic and attacking skillset perfectly suits the Bears’ way of playing, and his experience is key in a young and exciting squad,” Lam said, reported Bristol Live. The hooker himself reflected on just how far the club has come since he first arrived from Leicester seven years ago.
“From where the club was seven years ago, fighting to stay up, to where it is now, competing against the best in the Champions Cup, is something I take a lot of pride in,” Thacker said. “I feel this team has so much more left in it and can’t wait to play my part in that.”
Meanwhile, Marmion has also been making waves since his move from Connacht in 2023. The 33-year-old Ireland international has been a key figure this season, crossing the try line eight times in just 19 games. With 34 caps for Ireland under his belt, his experience has been invaluable to the squad.
Lam praised Marmion’s impact, calling him “a consistent performer” who thrives in competition with Harry Randall for the Bears’ number nine shirt. “He is a true team man who continues to compete hard with Harry Randall,” Lam added.
With both players committing their futures to the club, Bristol Bears fans have plenty to be excited about as the team continues to build for the future.
