Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs and WFAA reporter Mike Leslie have moved past a tense confrontation that took place following the Cowboys’ 30-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, told the New York Post. On Wednesday, the two cleared the air, with Diggs even bringing Leslie a gift to make amends.
The conflict began after Leslie posted on social media during the game, questioning Diggs’ positioning on a big play by 49ers tight end George Kittle. In the play, Diggs was defending elsewhere on the field and appeared not to notice Kittle, who found a clear path to the 1-yard line. Leslie’s post highlighted the play, prompting Diggs to confront him in the hallway outside the locker room, still wearing his pads.
“Out of that whole play, that’s what you got from that?” Diggs asked Leslie, clearly frustrated, in front of a gathering of other reporters. Leslie responded, suggesting they could discuss it further. Diggs, however, cut the conversation short with a heated retort: “We can talk about deez nuts,” before walking back into the locker room.
Following the incident, Diggs addressed the situation on teammate Micah Parsons’ podcast, admitting that he “let my emotions get the best of me.” He explained that he was dealing with “a lot of emotions” in the aftermath of the game, during which the Cowboys suffered their fourth loss of the season.
Head coach Mike McCarthy also commented on the incident, emphasizing professionalism. “I think we have to be better in those moments. I always talk about staying on a high road,” McCarthy told ESPN. “But I’m not ignorant or naive to the fact that this generation… the social media world. You have to manage that. That’s part of being a professional athlete and representing this organization properly.”
On Wednesday, Diggs made a gesture of goodwill, delivering a gift to Leslie to smooth things over. Although the Cowboys’ PR team deemed that video of the reconciliation violated their social media policy, Leslie shared photos instead, showing the two having a light-hearted exchange.
As for Diggs’ on-field performance, he tallied five tackles in the loss to the 49ers, his highest in over a month, bringing his season totals to 23 tackles and one interception. With a 3-4 record, the Cowboys are focusing on regaining momentum as they prepare to face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. While the team still has challenges to address, Diggs’ rapport with Leslie and the local media now seems to be back on track.
