Receiver DJ Moore and the Chicago Bears have finalized a four-year, $110 million contract extension, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This landmark deal guarantees $82.6 million to the six-year NFL veteran, marking the largest contract in the franchise’s history. Only Justin Jefferson and A.J. Brown have secured more lucrative extensions recently. Moore’s $110 million contract ranks as the fifth-highest among NFL receivers, trailing only behind Jefferson, Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. His average annual salary of $27.5 million places him seventh at his position.
Moore, 27, was traded from the Carolina Panthers to the Bears as part of a deal that included the 2023 No. 1 overall pick, used to select quarterback Bryce Young. Originally, Moore was the Panthers’ first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, chosen 24th overall out of Maryland.
Last season, Moore delivered the best performance of his career, recording 96 receptions for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns, told AP News. His yardage total was the fourth-highest for a receiver in Bears’ history. Known for his durability, Moore has played in all 17 regular-season games for three consecutive seasons.
Rookie quarterback and No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams will now have his top receiver secured through the 2029 season. With two years remaining on his current contract, Moore becomes the first receiver in NFL history to have the first 10 years of his career guaranteed under contract.
This significant commitment to Moore suggests that the Bears may not be planning to offer an extension to fellow receiver Keenan Allen. Acquired from the Los Angeles Chargers in March, Allen had an impressive season last year, catching 108 passes for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns. Allen is set to earn $18.1 million this season and will become a free agent afterward.
Additionally, the Bears selected Washington receiver Rome Odunze with the No. 9 overall pick. In his four seasons with the Huskies, Odunze caught 214 passes for 3,272 yards and 24 touchdowns. The combination of Moore’s extension and Odunze’s addition indicates a strategic focus on strengthening the receiving corps to support their young quarterback.
