Former Republican nominee contender Nikki Haley is facing renewed scrutiny over her previous remarks predicting Kamala Harris would win the White House if Donald Trump became the Republican candidate.
Haley, an ex-US ambassador to the United Nations, made her dire prediction earlier this year during the Republican primary race, which she ultimately lost to Trump. In a February interview with Fox News, Haley was asked why she remained in the race despite trailing Trump. She responded, “If Donald Trump is the nominee, mark my words, we will see a President Kamala Harris.”
These comments have resurfaced on social media following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would not seek a second term and his endorsement of Vice President Harris for the top role. The clip of Haley’s prediction, shared by the account Kamala HQ, has garnered more than 1.5 million views since it was posted earlier today.
Haley’s stark warning was not her only controversial statement during her campaign. In January, she told supporters in Concord, New Hampshire, that the first party to “retire” its elderly candidate would win the election. “The first party to retire its candidate is going to be the one who wins this election,” she asserted. This clip also went viral, racking up more than 4.8 million views on X (formerly Twitter), shared by the RepublicansAgainstTrump account.
Despite her earlier criticisms, Haley offered her full endorsement to Trump at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, earlier this month. Embracing her former rival, she declared, “I’ll start by making one thing perfectly clear – Donald Trump has my strong endorsement.” This endorsement came just days after Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt.
Initially, Trump was expected to once again challenge President Biden in a repeat of the 2020 election. However, Biden’s capacity to continue his campaign came under intense scrutiny following a poor debate performance against Trump in June.
The political landscape has since shifted dramatically with Biden stepping out of the race and endorsing Harris, setting the stage for what could be an unprecedented election cycle.
