Crowley hinted that the Democrats might replace President Joe Biden with Michelle Obama as their nominee, criticizing Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris as a “car crash” for the Democratic Party. She described Michelle Obama as a “pristine” candidate who “covers all the bases” with voters.
Crowley made these remarks during her appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), an annual gathering of American conservative activists. “The Democrats moved their convention to Chicago, and it’s entirely possible they can make the change at a conference in Chicago,” she claimed. “If they do the switch, they can position Michelle as the reluctant candidate. They can run her as the pristine candidate.”
The spotlight on Biden has intensified following comments from Robert Hur, the prosecutor in his classified documents case. Hur raised concerns about Biden’s age and cognitive abilities. He noted that while Biden had kept classified documents, he would not face charges due to being an “elderly man” with a fading memory, according to reports from the Mirror US. “We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” Hur stated.
Recent polling data supports these concerns. A Quinnipiac University poll suggests that a significant portion of voters are worried about Biden’s age and mental state. According to the poll, 67 percent of those surveyed believe the 81-year-old is too old to serve another term effectively. This concern is not exclusive to Biden, as 57 percent expressed similar concerns about Donald Trump.
Trump’s age and mental capacity have also been points of attack from his Republican primary opponent, Nikki Haley. Despite these criticisms, Trump continues to lead Haley in the polls and is expected to secure victory in the South Carolina vote on February 24.
