Mohamed Salah has revealed that discussions over a new Liverpool contract are far from resolution, even as he dazzles on the pitch, delivering another sensational performance in Liverpool’s 5-0 rout of West Ham on Sunday, reported by Barron’s. The win strengthened Liverpool’s grip on the Premier League title race, opening up an eight-point lead at the top.
The Egyptian superstar showcased his brilliance yet again, scoring once and assisting two more goals, bringing his remarkable season tally to 20 goals and 17 assists in just 24 matches across the Premier League and Champions League.
However, off the field, uncertainty looms large. Salah, alongside key teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, is out of contract at the end of the season, allowing negotiations with non-English clubs as early as January 1. While reports have hinted at progress in contract talks, Salah dismissed these claims.
“We are far away from that,” Salah told Sky Sports. “I don’t want to put something in the media and people start saying stuff, but nothing really has moved on. Now I am focused on the team and hopefully we win the Premier League.”
Liverpool’s title charge seems unstoppable on current form, though Arsenal and Chelsea still have opportunities to close the gap. For Salah, the focus remains firmly on team success.
“The only thing in my mind is that I want Liverpool to win the league, and I want to be part of it,” he said. “That is the only thing I have focused on. I will do my best to win the trophy. We are in the right direction, but there are other teams trying to catch up with us. We just need to stay humble and go again.”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who has steered the team to 23 wins in 27 matches since succeeding Jurgen Klopp, lauded Salah’s incredible form. When asked if Salah is currently the best player in the world, Slot acknowledged the Egyptian’s dominance.
“If you look at his numbers, you can’t argue that, but there are different players in different leagues with a lot of quality,” Slot remarked. “Mo is definitely up there at the moment. He could have scored more today, but I also liked his work rate for the team without the ball. He’s in a very good place. Let’s hope he can stay like this for a long time.”
Will Liverpool secure the Premier League title, and can Salah’s contract saga find a resolution? Fans will be watching closely.
