Washington’s valiant comeback effort fell just short as they failed on a 2-point conversion with nine seconds left, losing a thrilling Sun Bowl 35–34 to Louisville on Tuesday, reported by AP News. The Huskies capped off a dramatic 62-yard drive with a touchdown on fourth-and-1. Quarterback Demond Williams delivered a precise fade pass to Giles Jackson in the right back corner of the end zone, marking Jackson’s fourth touchdown of the game.

“GILES JACKSON FOR HIS 4TH TOUCHDOWN!” CBS Sports declared in a tweet highlighting the moment.

Rather than kicking the extra point to force overtime, Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch gambled on a 2-point conversion for the win. Williams targeted Jeremiah Hunter in the same corner of the end zone on an out route, but Louisville’s Antonio Watts made a crucial play, knocking the pass away to preserve the Cardinals’ lead.

“ANTONIO WATTS MAKES THE PLAY FOR @LouisvilleFB!!” another CBS Sports tweet exclaimed, underscoring the defensive heroics.

Washington’s hopes remained alive with an onside kick attempt, but the ball narrowly went out of bounds. Louisville’s quarterback Harrison Bailey took a knee on the final play to seal the Cardinals’ 9–4 season.

The Huskies, finishing 6–7, showed resilience throughout the game. After trailing 35–21 late in the third quarter, Washington scored two touchdowns, including a 31-yard strike from Williams to Jackson on a 97-yard drive.

Williams delivered an impressive performance, completing 26-of-32 passes for 374 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. He also led the Huskies in rushing with 48 yards on 20 carries. Jackson was unstoppable, recording 11 catches for 161 yards and all four of Washington’s touchdowns.

Defensive stops by the Huskies allowed them to rally, including a critical forced punt with 2:45 left. On fourth-and-goal from Louisville’s 10-yard line, a pass interference penalty gave Washington another chance, setting up Jackson’s final touchdown.

Louisville’s offense was powered by quarterback Harrison Bailey, who threw for 164 yards and three touchdowns. Running backs Isaac Brown and Duke Watson combined for 182 rushing yards, with Watson scoring on a spectacular 54-yard run. Wide receiver Chris Bell added six catches for 60 yards.

While Louisville celebrated their 9–4 season, Washington reflected on a game defined by determination, narrow misses, and unforgettable moments.
