Since Caitlin Clark was controversially omitted from the 2024 USA women’s basketball Olympic team, the Indiana Fever claimed the snub had “woke a monster.” However, this “monster” seemed absent during Monday night’s game as the Connecticut Sun defeated the Fever 89–72. This performance came despite Clark’s remarkable previous game, where she scored a career-high 30 points, told Daily Mail.

In contrast to her explosive performance against the Washington Mystics, Clark could not sustain her momentum against the Sun, managing only 10 points on 3-for-8 shooting, marking one of her lowest scoring totals in her rookie season. The crowd at Mohegan Sun Arena voiced their support, chanting “We want Caitlin! We want Caitlin!” as she sat benched after drawing her fourth foul early in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, Dijonai Carrington starred for the Sun, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Her performance was slightly marred by controversy as she appeared to mock Clark’s style of drawing a foul, which drew mixed reactions from the audience.

The game also featured notable performances from other Sun players. Alyssa Thomas, soon to be named to the USA Olympic squad, dominated the boards with 18 rebounds and added seven assists. DeWanna Bonner also made headlines by moving up to 10th on the WNBA’s all-time three-point list, contributing significantly to the Sun’s victory.

On the Fever’s side, Aliyah Boston led with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. Lexie Hull matched Clark’s 10 points, but the team overall struggled to find their rhythm against the Sun, dropping their record to 3–10 for the season.

The Fever have lost all their encounters with the Sun this season and will look for redemption in their final matchup on August 28. Next, Indiana faces the Atlanta Dream at home in a bid to turn their fortunes around, while the Sun will take on the Chicago Sky in an upcoming away game.
