A 72-year-old great-grandfather, Leroy Frost Sr., was tragically killed in a senseless act of violence after two men entered a South Carolina bar and opened fire early Saturday morning.

Leroy Frost Sr. was enjoying a night out at a local bar on Dasher Road when the horrific shooting took place. Jasper County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunfire at the bar at 3:15 a.m. EDT and discovered three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Frost was later pronounced dead at the hospital, leaving his family devastated.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office quickly identified two suspects in the shooting: 20-year-old Ja’Quan Demontre James and 41-year-old Herman Dessasure. Both men were charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Authorities warned that additional charges could be forthcoming.

James surrendered to Jasper County authorities on Tuesday at approximately 6 a.m. and was booked into the Jasper County Detention Center. However, Dessasure remains at large and is considered “armed and dangerous.” He is described as 6-foot-3, weighing around 205 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Dessasure is known to have connections in both Garnett, South Carolina, and Statesboro, Georgia, WTOC reported.

Frost’s family remembers him as a hardworking, fun-loving man who was always quick with a joke or the right thing to say. His son, Leroy Frost Jr., spoke fondly of his father, who had worked as an ironworker for 20 years and retired from a bomb plant in Aiken, South Carolina. “All I want is justice right now. I want them to be caught, and I want them to be held,” Frost Jr. said, expressing the grief and anger felt by the family.

Dessasure, who has a criminal record, is no stranger to law enforcement. He was previously charged with eight counts of residential burglary after a series of break-ins in 2010 and has been arrested five other times for battery, theft, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Given his violent history, the sheriff’s office has urged the public not to approach Dessasure if spotted but to contact 911 or local law enforcement immediately.

As the search for Dessasure continues, the Jasper County community and Frost’s family are left grappling with the loss of a beloved father and great-grandfather. The sheriff’s office remains committed to bringing justice for Frost and his family as they work tirelessly to apprehend the remaining suspect.
